As the book title suggests it is about the history of United States and the book tries to communicate what people of old United States America had to say. There are several books written as seen by the eyes of selected few to get the concentrated story for the book. The books generally talks about a couple of war heroes but apart from this it mainly discusses presidents, prime ministers, generals and captains of industries. It tells you the story from the sides of mentioned above not from the people who faced problems because of there decisions and forced laws. The story is not of a common man in history but the apparent leaders of past in various fields.
The authors have collected speeches, poems and several other things right from the time of Columbus, but it is the story that will seem untold. The reason for this is the history which is told in this book is opposite from what all the other books have given us which is mentioned above. One may argue that this is a very left side biased book but interesting fact to note here are that the other books has always been biased towards the other side still no one notices. All the previous Howard Zinn books have told us about Rockefeller and Carnegie, how they established industries. Now this book tells us about the labors who use to work in their factories and how they struggled to live in the wages provided to them. These people tried to raise there voice against the great captains of industries and there voice was shunned by stating that they were a threat to societies norms and set laws. To everyone’s surprise we all enjoy those rights which they died for and were called criminals for raising their voice against the giant of that world. The cases of people shot by private militants just because they went on strike.
